In Norway, four of the five games petered out into draws. Hikaru Nakamura versus Anish Giri also looked like it might fizzle out, but Nakamura channeled his inner Bobby Fischer by using his rook and bishop to outclass his opponent's rook and knight. Giri erred at a critical moment, and the half point he was striving for slipped out of his reach.

With all the buzz surrounding Wesley So and Fabiano Caruana, now might be the time for an overlooked Nakamura to make his move back toward the top.
