A Tale of Three Books
Along with studying opening lines I hope to improve my game by using more generalized chess knowledge from these three books. The Art of Attack in Chess by V. Vukovic, Pawn Power in Chess by Hans Kmoch, and My System by Aron Nimzowitsch. I'm a long way from having read all three. I have at different times started to read each, and have grazed on select chapters from time to time. So now I'm restarting with The Art of Attack first. I thought I might look for elements of the books in my games. Here is the first such game. I am not posting it here as a perfect example. Maybe not even a good example. Just an example of what I can see in a past game that matches things I have read in these books. Even with all my imperfections. I've included some lines by Stockfish to show some of my errors and how they could be improved. I hope this will cause you to look for these ideas in your games.
I will try to improve my application of the principles expounded in these books. I know I will not do so perfectly but will try to improve as I go. I'd love to hear your opinion and/or see a game of yours that was influenced by these books. Most of the games from The Art of Attack in Chess are here http://www.queensac.com/chessblog/bookgames/vukovic/artofattackb.htm in PGN format. Look in the bottom left corner for a single file.
Here is a recent example of an attack on the castled King. A concept from The Art of Attack. I admit I was lucky my opponent blundered, but the attack was ready when he did. If you're not in attack mode an opponents blunder may go unpunished. Anyway it makes for exciting play.
So far "The Art of Attack in Chess" has shown me some amazing world class attacks on the uncastled King. While I am thrilled by the beauty in these chess games. It has not given me knowledge that I can use in my games. Here is one of the example games.
