So you know how the pieces move. What now? Don't let the title scare you off. The Usborne guide to Advanced Chess by David Norwood is just what you need.

No other book I've seen covers the game so completely and so beautifully. Let me say I know it's out of print. Still you can find copies at Amazon or Thriftbooks cheap. The illustrations are amazing.

A quick look at the contents shows how much information is contained in this book.

Now for the surprize. The book is only 64 pages including the index. So it should be obvious that it serves as a quick introduction to each topic. An outline of topics for future study. When you have completed this book you will have a picture of the full scope of playing chess for fun and competitively.

This is a quick easy read. A welcoming guide for beginning players. Still the knowledge it contains is significant. Here is an example of what you will find inside.

The pictures and illustrations are appealing and easy to absorb. If you can obtain this book and complete it you will be ready for part two. I hope you will join me on this journey of self improvement. Follow my blog. Leave a comment.
