Do you wonder why this ancient sport uses the queen as the strongest piece defending the king and not the other way around? Me too, I always wondered why considering the fact that traditionally it would have been the other way around.

In this blog I will be going in depth on the history of why the queen is the strongest piece in chess. I would also love constructive criticism in the comment section to help me become a better and more interesting blogger.

In 1500 CE which is an estimated time by historians, chess was created following a major historical event. The mental game was created after the Arab people invaded and led a conquest in Persia. Soon after the Muslim people created the game, but the inspiration is unknown so it is believed to be the invasion above. This was the creation of the game that lasted long while before soon European conquests reached the Middle-East.

When the game reached Europe in the 9th and 10th centuries it was a popular game as many other form of entertainment were not nearly as fun and challenging as Chess which challenged the minds of many.

Over time in Europe the royalty changed, the monarchs changed, the bloodlines changed. Eventually in 1474 Queen Isabella II was put on the throne in Spain the country that had originally gotten Chess from the Muslim people. The queen liked the game but felt that the should have the queen be the strongest and protect the king. The queen made it official as Chess was still mainly played and was technically introduced to other European countries. Since she was a very influential figure in Europe at the time she had the respect and authority to make the queen stronger and the variety  we know and love today.

So what should you get from this? You should walk away from this blog having a deeper understanding on the Chess evolution of the strongest piece in the game, the queen. As we know today without Queen Isabella II we would have a totally different Chess piece dynamic with the queen taking on the kings position and vice versa.
