Clubs Vs. Off Topic Forums: Which Is Better?

Welcome, folks, to a comparison of which social place is better! Clubs, or Off Topic Forums? Before I start my analysis on which is better, please keep in mind this is MY opinion, and not everything I say that I agree, that you will agree on.

Clubs

What are clubs first of all? They are like a community into one club. There are features such as notes, which you can post a note for what you want to talk about. Then, there are ranks: Super Admin: You get to edit the club, invite, make chess events, etc. Admins invite and make chess events. Coordinators can only make chess events. Then members, which is the lowest of the hierarchy. Owner is the 2nd rank of the hierarchy. What is top? The owner of chess.com. (He can decide if the club is appropriate, blah blah, blah, get out of here, Erik.) Admins and Super Admins are basically staff/mods but in clubs.

Off Topic Forums

Ahh, OTF, such a great hangout place. You can create threads aka forums. You have to abide by the chess.com rules there, unlike clubs which abide by whatever their rules say. (Which is messy) If you post a forum, and it doesn’t abide by the rules, it can possibly get locked, or moderated (aka changing the og comment or title), by staff/mods.

Pros and Cons: Clubs

Pros:

If you create a club, and it grows a lot, it’ll give you confidence in the future

Sometimes there are daily puzzles, or daily games that you can play

When you get promoted, it boosts your dopamine, (chemical in your brain that makes you happy, well at least I think it will make you happy T-T)

You can delete what goes against the clubs rules if you’re admin/sa

You can meet goofy individuals!

Theres tons of clubs you can join to make your notifications never die.

Cons

There’s spammers, that’ll make your club bad

Ban attacks can happen to your club if you don’t promote, or another SA did, to the wrong person. can make you sad :[

Usually if you start off in clubs, you’re usually a dry texter.

99 percent (I feel like) are just made to get only members. They’re usually just plain, and are just like other clubs (with the forums games and stuff)

Most members aren’t loyal, meaning they’ll mostly just do nothing to help the club, only boosting the member count

Pros and Cons: Off Topic Forums

Pros

Most of the members that dedicate most of their time to OTF, are very loyal (aka not ghosting you, and will always help! Well I think most of the time T-T)

If your thread reaches a high number of posts, it’ll boost your happiness I guess

Members there don’t feel like a community; but instead like family that comes from all around the world. (Erm clubs too, sure, but most members in clubs don’t care)

Theyre a calm community, having tons of forum games better than clubs (Hurt/Heal is a cliche ahh game, sorry clubs, but they’re not that fun)

You will be a wet texter there! ^^

Cons

Spammers and trolls can sometimes take a long time to get muted/banned by a staff/mod

Some threads are made for ragebait or attention

Threads nowadays as kinda spammy, with the goofy ahh above you threads

There’s some “roasts” there when arguement or ragebait is created. (Although some have a point, some don’t)

THERES STUPID AHH ELECTIONS LIKE WTH ERIK IS TECHNICALLY PRESIDENT BC HE CREATED IT OR WTV 🤢

This is what y’all think I’m thinking rn lol

Jared why are you in sigma boy song

Conclusion (my opinion)

So, now is the end of this blog, drumroll please

*inaudible drumrolling*

In my opinion, I think OTF is still better. I know a while ago I said clubs were better, but I realized OTF was more loyal than clubs, and it feels like family there, instead of going to work to clubs. So congrats OTF! And better luck next time, clubs.
