Best Openings

Hi Guys. I am Raptor. I talk about all things chess on my blog. This one is about 'the best chess openings' (in my opinion)

1. The London System

Look, 1.d4 is not my preferred opening move but the London is one of the best white openings. After 1.d4 black can play anything but you can still play the London. If black plays 1...Nf6  you can still play the London. And so on. The London is a versatile and useful tool to have in your opening repertoire.

2. The Kings Indian Defence

To me, this is the best variation of the Indian Game. I love fianchettoing my bishops and what better way to do it than with a nice, closed King Side opening? It is my favorite counter to 1.d4. I usually hope for the Normal Variation (The easiest to play) but the others are nice as well.

3. The Gioco Piano Game : Gioco Pianissimo Variation

This transposition from the Italian Game is my favorite way to play 1.e4 in any game the way it just develops is just. Ma ma Mia (Get it). On a serious note, it is a really good opening and in my opinion, the best way to play 1.e4. GMs should be using this opening more.

4. The Caro-Kann Defence

I like the Caro-Kann, it ties with the Sicilian Defence for the 2nd best counter to 1.e4 (1st being 1...e5). It is solid and positional, it turns into long games, which I love as I spend as much time with a chessboard as I possibly can. If you need more explanation why the Caro-Kann is great, just ask GothamChess (Levy Rozman).

Thanks for putting a few minutes of your time into reading this blog. If you found this helpful please come back in a few days for more blogs by me RaptorChess.

Hi, I am Raptor. A chess player with a low rating and high skill. I may strike you as a 500, but in reality, I am a 1200-skill-level player. So watch out. Just joking, but have fun reading my blogs.
