Preface:
The very first opening that I used was the King's Knight Opening (includes Gunderam Defence, Greco Defence, Damiano Defence, Elephant Gambit, and Latvian Gambit.)
Constant practice and understanding the basics really help me a lot to know what chess really is, a Puzzle. It is theoretical and logical. Theory in the sense you are following the guide of the book and logical since it involves creating and avoiding traps (skewer, pin, discovered check) and analysis to gain material advantage and to capture the opponent's King. After all chess begins with either a pawn or a knight, that's for sure!
