Too much chess?

I recently entered a competition on chess.com and really, It's too much chess. I can't focus or plan on many games, as its a chain line production. I make silly mistakes and I don't learn. It's frustrating, as I feel I'm not making any progress, and I'm not seeing the bigger picture, as I'm concentrating on the 'nitty gritty' of playing the games. At the beginning, my rating was 1200, but I can see it being 100 at the end of all these tournaments unless  I" sacrifice" some games. This seems counterproductive, and I'm not enjoying the chess I'm playing. In future, i'll choose carefully wich contests to enter, as in the first one, it was all over before it started, with the player with the best rating going foreward, and all motivation being lost to continue.

I feel at the moment I'm going to stay around the 1200/1100 mark as that is a true reflection of my standard, and I don't know what to do do improve.I'd like to spend more time studying the game, but I don't have the time, and I don't like the idea of a mentor.
