World Amateur Team East 2017
- Board 1 - IM Denys Shmelov
- Board 2 - Robert J King (yours truly)
- Board 3 - Todd Chase
- Board 4 - Matt Phelps
The weekend started off with a bang, with a Friday pre-tournament late night session of Tandem Chess with all the MA gang: IM Denys Shmelov, IM David Vigoritto, Mark Fins, Matt Phelps, Todd Chase, and myself. Hilarity ensued and this night will go down in infamy!
In regards to the actual tournament, our team had a our best results yet finishing 5-1 and winning the best MA team prize! Personally, I finished 6-0 on board 2 with a few very nice wins against NM Lawyer Times (MA) and Fritz Gaspard (NY). I have included these games below.
Each year, Denys and I play in the Sunday night bughouse tournament. We are always the bridesmaid and never the bride, as we took 2nd place for the 4th time in a row. We can't claim to have been sober at all for this tournament, but it was amazing. There were some extremely strong players in the tournament, including GM Eric Hansen of Canada.
If you are in the Northeast and haven't played this tournament yet, grab 3 friends and field a team for next year. You won't be disappointed!
Here are a few of my select games, enjoy!
