3 Minute Puzzle Rush vs. Puzzle Battle? Is there a difference? Some of you may be confused, you may say, "Wait a minute Roger, they're both 3 minutes, and they're both the same! The only difference is puzzle battle is competing against an opponent, and in puzzle rush, you compete against yourself". Although for some strange reason, my puzzle battle record is higher than my 3-minute puzzle rush record. Why is this? Is it because of the competitive feel? Is a puzzle battle designed to give easier puzzles compared to puzzle rush? I will be answering all these questions, Enjoy!

What Even is Puzzle Rush or Puzzle Battle?

Puzzle Rush and Puzzle Battle are both puzzle-based "training" games. The goal is to solve as many puzzles as you can before 3 minutes is up (there is also a 5-minute version and even a survival mode which allows unlimited time). As you proceed to get puzzles correct, the puzzle gets harder and harder. For your rush to the end, either you get 3 puzzles wrong or you run out of time. There will be a counter at the top that indicates how many puzzles you've solved, when your rush ends, you will be given a final score, players play again and again attempting to break their record! If you haven't played puzzle rush, you can try it here! Puzzle Battle is the same as puzzle rush except you have an opponent. Again, you have 3 minutes to complete as many puzzles as possible, but instead of trying to beat your record, you're trying to beat your opponent who's getting the same puzzles at the same time.

Are Puzzle Battle Records Higher Than Puzzle Rush Records?

According to a survey that I did, the answer is yes. I asked my friends what their Puzzle Battle record, and their Puzzle Rush record. My puzzle battle record is 32, while my puzzle rush score is 30. My friend @Sep-Gol's (who often helps me on my blogs) puzzle battle record is 40, while his puzzle rush score is 36. This pattern continues, the puzzle battle score is always higher than the puzzle rush score. One of the most elite Puzzle Battle players @gejimayu has a 3-minute puzzle rush record of 53! Yet he has also gotten 54 in puzzle battle, very close but it seems that puzzle battle scores are just higher. So yes, puzzle battle records are higher than puzzle rush records. To prove this to you, I setup an experiment for myself. I would do 10 puzzle rush's and 10 puzzle battles, then I would record my scores and find the average for each category, then I would compare my two averages!

Here are my Results!

So like I said above, puzzle battle records are higher than puzzle rush scores according to my research. You can try this experiment too and tell me your scores in the comments below!

Are the Puzzles in Puzzle Battle Easier Than the Ones in Puzzle Rush?

This could very well be possible so I took a puzzle rush run and a puzzle battle and compared the rating of the puzzles that I was getting. Here is the Puzzle Rush and here is the Puzzle Battle side-by-side. The strength of the puzzles both are very similar but it seems that Puzzle Battle puzzles have lower ratings, I asked my good friend @2Ke21-0 and he told me that he thinks the puzzles he's getting in puzzle battles are easier than the ones in puzzle rush.

Although according to the CEO of chess.com @erik, the answer is no.

Does Competitiveness Increase Your Performance?

According to an article that can be found on fastcompany.com, the text states, "Competition can increase motivation, improve productivity and performance, and provide accountability and validation". My friend @Sep-Gol also says, "Competitiveness gave them a surge and their memories pushed themselves". So yes, having some sort of competition could increase your performance. Although some people are the opposite, some people do worse when there is competition since they get nervous and end up not being able to play their best game.

Conclusion

In the end, it is based on preference, I know I do better in puzzle battle vs. puzzle rush. In the comments down below, write your 3 min puzzle rush record and your puzzle battle record. Thanks for reading, and happy holidays!
