The Galactic Rangers - Part 2
They went upstairs, and Harper got the keys to the team room. They entered. It was an old room with a few cupboards filled with papers, a soft board that was empty, and — to Sam’s surprise — a cupboard full of weapons.
“We haven’t visited this place in a year,” Harry said, brushing dust off an old chair.
“But I never even knew this place existed. You all told me it was just a storeroom,” Sam
said, looking around in disbelief.
Then Harper pressed a button.
The lights turned on, and the whole team room lit up.
Suddenly, a cupboard on the wall shifted and opened, like it had been hidden all along.
Inside were five suits that looked like advanced space suits.
“What’s going on?” Sam shouted in frustration
“Alex, team, take a seat,” Harper said.
“As you all know, I’m the captain of this team,” Harper continued.
“But—” Sam started to speak.
“Yeah, we never told you anything before,” Harper interrupted, “but don’t interrupt me. I’m going to explain everything to you — Alex, you, and you, Sam.”
“We were the universe’s saviors before you joined the team,” Harper started.
He pressed a button, and a hidden panel slid open on the empty wall.
Behind it, a glowing sign appeared — the team’s name.
“This is who we are,” Harper said.
And the entire team said together, “Galactic Rangers.”
“But why did you stop fighting villains?” Alex asked.
“That’s a long story,” Harry said.
“But we can tell you in short,” Leo added.
“Thirteen months ago, we had to fight a villain on the planet Samperno,” Harper said.
“That was the first time we ever lost. We weren’t ready for such a big fight and that loss took everything we had.”
“Half our weapons were destroyed,” he continued. “Even this base was attacked. We almost lost one of our teammates.”
Frank stepped forward and stood beside Harper.
“After that,” he said, “we had to shut down the Galactic Rangers. No one wanted to continue. The famous team… was ended.”
“And… sorry, Alex. We can’t help you,” Harper said.
“What? Why?” his teammates replied.
“We’ll help Alex, won’t we? We’re the Galactic Rangers,” Sam said, standing up.
“Yeah, why not,” Frank added.
“Oh, really?” Harper said, surprised. “I thought you all wouldn’t want to. You were the ones who voted to shut the team down.”
"How far is it?" Frank asked.
"Two hundred and fifty light years," Alex answered.
"We can start traveling at 11 p.m. tonight," Frank suggested.
"Why not now?" Sam asked.
"I don’t think we can go in Alex’s ship," Frank replied. "And ours is still a bit damaged from the last flight. I never repaired it well enough to make a return trip."
"And we need more weapons," Harry added.
"Yeah, we can’t fight with just these," Leo agreed.
"Alex, what’s the name of your planet?" Harper asked.
"Serwandia," Alex replied.
"Okay… and how long will it take to get there?" Harper looked at Frank.
"Four to five days," Frank answered, typing quickly on his laptop.
"What are you doing?" Sam asked, watching him.
"Activating the spaceship storage bay," Frank said without looking up.
"Harper, can’t we leave all this work for the morning? It’s already 4 a.m.," Sam yawned.
“Okay then,” Harper finally agreed.
“Frank, you in?” Harper asked.
“I’m coming,” Frank replied, standing up.
While Harper waited for Frank, Harry and Leo took Alex to show him a room where he could rest. Sam stayed back to close all the doors before heading to bed.
As Sam was locking the balcony door, he paused.
Something strange caught his eye — a glowing light moving silently across the sky, headed straight toward them.
He squinted.
It wasn’t a star.
It wasn’t a plane.
“Harper! Alex! Frank! Come here!” Sam shouted, his voice sharp.
The others came running, urgency in their steps.
They followed Sam’s gaze — and saw it.
A glowing object, growing larger by the second, streaked across the sky, heading directly toward the treehouse.
