June/July Recap: Fighting off the Rust I

Hello, everyone!

After the Chicago Open at the end of May I made a goal of playing at least one classical event during June to try and stay somewhat sharp before the US Open. I played a weekly swiss event at my local chess club, which gave me four rounds of practice over the course of the month. I then played a three round rapid ('action') event in early July. I used all of these games as an opportunity to experiment and to take more risks than I'm accustomed to taking. In this installment,  I'll share some of the more interesting moments from the June classical tournament. I hope they provide some instructional value, or at least some entertainment for the reader.

I hope you enjoyed the games. Please leave any questions or comments below.
Until next time,
RPM

Originally, this was labeled 'Road to 2000,' but that's already been achieved. In this blog, I will do write-ups on my tournaments, including games I felt were instructive. I will also cover some of my training methods and track my progress over time as I try to become a USCF National Master. You will also find some of my analytical work here (on endgames, important historical or modern games, etc).  Ideally I would like to hit my goal before the end of 2019 (which is not so much time given the amount of work to do). I hope you enjoy following along.
