Shaking off the Rust: Amateur Team North

Hello, dear readers.  It's been quite some time since I've posted an update on my recent tournament results. My last classical tournament was in late February at the Amateur Team North competition in Schaumburg, Illinois. I played fourth board in all five rounds and finished 3.0/5, which is quite depressing, considering I should have scored something like 4.0-4.5 based on the average rating of my opponents. It was quite obvious after the first round that I was unprepared in more than one sense for long time conrol tournament play. Below you'll find my analysis of games 1-5.

Round 1:

Round 2:

Round 3:

Round 4:

Round 5:

Easily my worst round of the tournament, I spent way too much time after being surprised in the opening, and then got both a losing position and a large deficit on the clock.

Originally, this was labeled 'Road to 2000,' but that's already been achieved. In this blog, I will do write-ups on my tournaments, including games I felt were instructive. I will also cover some of my training methods and track my progress over time as I try to become a USCF National Master. You will also find some of my analytical work here (on endgames, important historical or modern games, etc).  Ideally I would like to hit my goal before the end of 2019 (which is not so much time given the amount of work to do). I hope you enjoy following along.
