The 2021 Chess World Cup was a single elimination tournament played between July 12-August 6, won by polish GM Jan-Krzystof Duda followed by Sergey Kajakin and Magnus Carlsen at 2nd and 3rd.

This invitational double round robin that decides who plays the world champion was won by russian GM Ian Nepomniachtchi, though he would lose the world championship to Magnus Carlsen 7.5 to 3.5.
