Removing the defender

Usually, removing the defender includes, two pieces guarded by the same piece, like in this example:

Anyways, WHY IS REMOVING THE DEFENDER IMPORTANT?

Well, because in games, it is often very hard for the opponent to see and then they could fall for the tactic, and you can win a piece, sometimes, you can only win a pawn, but a pawn is a pawn.
