My chess story

Hi guys, today I would like to share my chess story with everyone today. I hope you enjoy this blog.

 THE VERY START

I was 5 yrs old when I first learned how to play chess. My father (@not_the_poster_child) first taught me basic stuff like how to move the pieces, checkmate, etc. I only remember 1 game (one of the first games I ever played). Yes, I remember every move lol.

Brilliant game by me, probably the first game I ever won LMAO. When I was about 6 yrs old every day I would play chess with my dad after he came home from work. After we moved from New York to California things began to change.

6.5 to about 8 yrs old

This is when my chess life changed most. If I had to estimate my rating then I would say I was about a 400. At 7-8 yrs old I played chess a LOT less often.

Most of the time, the only time I played chess was at my after school chess club. I was by FAR the best player there, and I hardly lost any games. Everyone there I would say was like a 200 or so, maybe higher.

At about 8 yrs old I created my first online chess account. Here on chess.com. The link to that account is right here: @Sack_o_Potatoes. Shocking? Well actually some people should already know that LOL. When I first joined I rarely played and only played rapid. I never made friends either. On chess.com I was NEVER social idk why.

Soon after (a few months) I had my first friend. I think it was @shinois I think but I probably spelled it wrong. Another month or two later I had a lot of friends. Not a HUGE amount, but a decent amount of friends, maybe around like 20-30 friends. A bit after that I started something totally NEW: variants.

I started 3 check at around 7.5 yrs old. I just loved the variant. It was so fun and tactical. For the fun of it, lemme show you my first game.

Decent first game eh?

After that I lost a few games (dropped to the 700 level) then after that I started steadily improving. Within a few months I was already 1k. Before I knew it I was 1200. When I was about 1300 I started to quit 3 check and move over to KOTH. I still enjoyed 3 check but just didn't play it. I reached about 1k in KOTH then turned back to 3 check. About that point in my life I was going to move to Taiwan (which some of you already know).

MOVING TO TAIWAN TO PRESENT DAY

When I moved to Taiwan it was Chinese new year, so there was no school. However, my family had to quarantine for 14 days because at the time all immigrants had to quarantine, but this was good for me. No one in my family had covid, but it was a normal precaution. When we were in quarantine I played so much more chess than I usually did. I went from 1300-1500 3 check. Every day I played in several arenas.

The hotel I quarantined at (Mariott Taipei Nangang district)

After we got out of quarantine we got on a taxi and went to Hsinchu (新竹). When we got to the temporary house (美珠山莊) I found out the worst thing ever: no internet.

Meizhu had almost the worst internet ever. For about every game I disconnected, which resulted in a HUGE loss of rating points. I went from 1500~1600 to 1200~1300. This was awful for me. I was at home for about 10 hours of the day and I could hardly play chess! I got sooooooooooooooooo bored at home without chess tho so I simply had to play.  I lost pretty much 300 rating points for bullet and 3 check, and a bit for blitz too. But there was some good news, that housing situation was just TEMPORARY, so in a few weeks I would be moving which was good.

When I moved to my new house, I was incredibly excited because of 2 reasons. First one: click here read it not rickroll

              Second reason: OP INTERNET SIIIIIIIIIIIIIUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

So after finding out how good the internet was I was SOOOOOOOOOO happy. That meant a HUGE rating boost. After that I steadily improved my chess play. I got 1800, then 1900 3 check, created a lichess account, 1600 then 1700 blitz, and I was top 50 3 check on lichess before I dropped tons of rating.
