The Queens Gambit has 3 common responses:
The Slav defense (2. c6)
Queens Gambit declined (2. e6)
Queens Gambit accepted (2. dxc4)
Slav defense
This is the starting position of the Slav defense
The Slav defense supports the d pawn the the c pawn. It blocks out the b1 knight's favorite spot, but aims to develop it on d7, supporting the the g1 knight it develops, the Slav defense transfers to the Semi Slav defense most of the the time. On the 3rd move white has 3 common choices. Nf3 is most popular, second most popular is Nc3, then a small bit of the time white exchanges the pawn. When white plays Nc3, it usually transfers into the 3 knights variation, so Nc3, and Nf3 are both basically the same. The exchange variation can be very symmetrical

Declined
This is the starting position of the Declined variation
The declined is almost the the same as the Slav, it usually transfers into the Semifirst. , the lines are also similar, in the Slav it usually aims to develop the queen knight on d7, same with the queens gambit declined, in the Slav, all the knights besides the b8 knight are quickly developed, same with the declined, but, in the declined white tends to develop the queen knight first. Both variations almost ALWAYS transfers into the Semi Slav. The declined has also one other variation. The Tarrasch defense, its a bit like a symmetrical queens gambit. Another thing about the queens gambit declined is that the exchange variation is much more common.

Accepted
This is the starting position of the accepted variation
In the accepted black happily accepts whites pawn. White has to try to prove an advantage with 1 less pawn. White usually wins the pawn back in the first 20 moves. White can gain a strong center but black has the extra pawn. Black can attack the d pawn because black has an open attacking file because he or she recaptured so then black will try to attack d4 in the accepted variation
