Hello everybody! The title GM is truly a spectacle, as it is a major mark to professionalism. All the great chess players of today are GMs: Magnus Carlsen, Hikaru Nakamura, Fabiano Caruana. But who were some of the people who didn't make GM who were undoubtedly fantastic chess players of their time?

5: IM Emory Tate

Emory Tate is mostly now known for being the famous media personality Andrew Tate's son. However, he was also a major chess player, chasing after the GM title, when he died in a chess tournament. Known as a "trailblazer" for African-American chess, he had many fantastic games worthy of brilliancy awards. Here's one of them.

Let's see if you can find the tactic that ended the game.

What a brilliant game played by the trailblazer for African-American chess and one who most people believed should have been a grandmaster.
#4: Sultan Khan
Technically, this is a cheat, but Sultan Khan was a grandmaster-level player who reportedly once beat the amazing player Capablanca. Sultan traveled with another called Sir Umar. They reportedly went to Britain, where Sultan won the second tournament he played. This is one of his best and most famous games.
