As we all know the 29th of February is a unique day, as it happens only once in four years.

That is why I suggest all of you to spend it somewhat special. For example -

to do, what you had never done before!

But do not forget about your chess self-education. Devote some free time for improvement of your level.

So will do I.  Going forward my choice for today -  (№3,5 - to learn, №2 -repeat).

As a practical chessplayer and a current chess coach, I offer 5 positions, which probably you already know, or may be not.

I strongly believe, that the knowledge of these theoretical endings will not only make you more confident in chess endings, but you will also learn some ideas in chess, that not all Grandmasters know by heart. And especially the value of these endgames rises when you have limited amount of time.

P.S. These positions are not easy at all, but you may at least try to play trough the moves you will find, understand the ideas and memorize simple technic. I am not going to show all variations of examples given below, because it's huge amount of information.

I just challenge you to search in your books, magazines or of course surf the Internet.

I wish you good luck and to spend your extra day with fun, joy and purpose.

Hope to see the comments, what position who had chosen.

#1. Knight and Bishop checkmate

#2. Queen vs Rook. Philidor Position.

#3. Rook & Bishop vs Rook. Philidor Position.

#4. 2 pawns vs 1. Capablanca's endgame.

#5. Rook & Knight vs Rook. How to draw?
