August Blitz and Memes
I am a meme machine
- Magnus Carlsen
Hello, my fellow blitz players, and welcome to another edition of Blitz & Memes. If you're a fan of puzzles taken from amateur online blitz tournaments, then you have come to the right place, because that is what I do.
As always, the tactics have been drawn from the Japan Chess Federation's monthly blitz tournament: TGIF Blitz. The tourney takes place on the 3rd Friday of every month, 21:00 JST, right here on chess.com. It consists of seven rounds of blitz, with a time control of 3+2; and is open to all JCF club members.
The memes on the other hand, were gathered from the far corners of the InterWebs...
Good luck trying to solve all five puzzles on the first attempt, four of them are pretty hard, while the last is truly difficult.
So, without further ado, lets get to the Blitz and Memes.

A Clearance Sale
Our first puzzle comes from the 7th round and features yours truly....I had a terrible night at the boards, but I gained some consolation with this maneuver.
Black has chosen the tried and true stratagem of simply pushing the h-pawn up the board, can you continue in the most effective manner?

Out of Room
Another position taken from the 7th round. Here IM rnanjo playing Black is able to take advantage of White's lack of space to deliver mate.
A series of checks leads to White's demise.

Pins Over Everythang
Another one from IM rnanjo, playing Black, this one comes from the 4th round. White position looked solid, but his last move opened up a diagonal that would have been better closed.
Can you coordinate your pieces to win material?

Cornered
This 5th round match-up sees drsljones, playing Black, make a series of accurate moves to put White under pressure.
Black's rook is hanging, but is it better to attack or defend?...silly question I suppose.

Bot Level Attacking
We have saved the best for last. Here in the 7th round, drsljones, playing White, pulls out the bot level chess to put Black under immense pressure.
Good luck with this one, hard to believe someone found this in a blitz game.
And that was it, that was August Blitz and Memes.
Congrats to Danny524 for winning with a 6/7 score. And more importantly congratulations to anyone who was able to solve all 5 puzzles on the first attempt. You are certainly a master level solver of puzzles taken from amateur online blitz tournaments.
As always, thanks for reading, and feel free to share these puzzles and memes with your friends down at the Library or Bar.
Cheers, SheldonOfOsaka.
