July Blitz and Memes

Hello, my fellow tactic solvers, and welcome to another edition of Blitz & Memes. If you're a fan of tactics taken from amateur online blitz tournaments, then you have come to the right place, because that is what I do.

As always, the puzzles have been pulled from the Japan Chess Federation's monthly blitz tournament: TGIF Blitz. The tourney takes place on the 3rd Friday of every month, 21:00 JST, right here on chess.com. It consists of seven rounds of blitz, with a time control of 3+2; and is open to all JCF club members.

The memes on the other hand, were collected from the far corners of the InterWebs...

Good luck trying to solve all five puzzles on the first attempt, one or two of them are bit more subtle than usual.

So, without further ado, lets get to the Blitz and Memes.

Looks like he has been knighted.

Equestrian

Our first tactic is taken from the first round; buddhibalpremi had an incredible night, but we cannot expect less from a man who has a picture with GM Adhiban as his PFP. Here playing White he uses forcing moves to win material.

Can you find a way to make that horse a Knight?

Well, what do you know...

Boxed In

Once again, buddhibalpremi is featured, this time the encounter is from the sixth round. Black's kingside has been opened up, while White's heavy pieces are aimed at the weakness. Surely this is a recipe for Mate, but can you find it?

This is a mate in 4, but it takes a little bit of brilliance to make it happen.

So angry with me...

Untenable

Another tactic from the first round sees kmthorikawa pull off an upset. White is able to show that Black's pieces, although dangerous looking, are actually in...an untenable situation, if you will.

Can you see how they won material by undermining Black's pieces?

IShowSpeed > Nakamura

Choked and Congested

One last time from buddhibalpremi, this time from the forth round. Here Black is able to win material with a forcing move and subtle push.

Can you use the congested nature of the position to your advantage?

I thought everyone did this?

Straight Line
Our final entry comes from the sixth round. Here drsljones, playing Black is able to take advantage of the position of White's pieces to win material.
Can you see the shortest path to victory?

And that was it, that was July Blitz and Memes.
Congratulations to BrightBleu for winning with a 6/7 score; and certainly more importantly congrats to those few who were able to solve all 5 puzzles on the first attempt, you are the real MVP.
As always, thanks for reading and feel free to share these puzzles with your friends down at the Bar or Office.
Cheers, SheldonOfOsaka.

A gentle reminder...
