Welcome everybody, to a special year-end edition of Blitz 'n' Memes...

If you're a fan of Blitz 'n' Memes then you have come to the right place, as I have put together a list of the top 5 tactics of 2025, as voted on by me, myself and I.

Not to mention, the top chess memes of 2025, which amount to the memes that even month's later still make me chuckle.

All 5 tactics are among the hardest of the year, so getting 5 out of 5 will not be easy, but I have faith in my dear readers.

So, without further ado, lets get to the Top 5 Blitz 'n' Memes of 2025.

Wait...what?!

#5 Highway to Heaven

Our first tactic is from September's Master's Edition, the one and only Blitz 'n' Memes that took tactics from the Japan Open 2025 rather than TGIF Blitz.

FM Shou Otsuka of Japan, playing White, found a path to victory.

I have heard it said that the purpose of all maneuvering is to bring the heavy pieces to the 7th and 8th rank, the old adage proves true again.

In all seriousness, do not self-harm, if you have the misfortune of watching one of Hans' rants.

#4 Brilliant vs Brilliancy

This tactic was played way back in January, and featured Brilliant moves from both White and Black.

Zucci, playing Black, against Yoichi_Fchaser, demonstrates how to respond to multiple brilliant moves.

White's back rank weaknesses come back to haunt him...Believe that.

My love life...

#3 Right on Target

The bronze medal winning tactic is again from the historic September Master's Edition. For me, this is the most aesthetically pleasing tactics of the top 5 list.

A clash of the titans match-up, IM Thanh Tu Tran of Japan playing White, takes on perennial TGIF Blitz champion IM Ryosuke Nanjo. IM Tu sets up an elegant yet ferocious attack.

Loose Pieces Drop Off...so what pieces are loose?

Yes...yes.

#2 A King Hunt

The silver medal, goes to Zucci, who is the only player to have two winning contributions to the list. This maneuver was played in the May edition of Blitz 'n' Memes, again against Yoichi_Fchaser...what are the odds?

Zucci, playing White, goes into all out attack mode to gain the full point.

Use the Forcing moves...

Here's to spending New Year's with good friends and cheer.

#1 99.9% Accuracy

The top tactic of 2025, was played back in April by Giukhan. An incredible combination that well deserves the top spot.

Giukhan, playing White, was able to achieve a 99.9% accuracy game, while playing the Evans Gambit, Agadmator would be proud.

Hint: White is slightly worse and must activate his pieces.

My best chess memory of 2025...Meeting a Legend.

And that was it, that was the Top 5 Blitz 'n' Memes of 2025...

Congratulations to all the players featured...and of course congrats to you few puzzle GMs who were able to get all 5 tactics correct on the first attempt, you are in a league of your own, and I salute you!

I'd like to take a moment to thank each and one of you who take the time to read my humble little blog.

The first edition of Blitz 'n' Memes was way back in January of 2022 (although it had a different name) and for four years I have been blessed to share with you tactics played in Japan Chess Federation tournaments and memes taken from the InterWebs.

What started off as an interesting way to share highlights among the Japanese chess community has morphed into a serial that is seen by chess fans around the world, and I could not be more humbled and awed by that. Thank you!!

As always, thanks for reading, and feel free to share these puzzles and memes with your friends down at the Library or Bar.

Cheers, SheldonOfOsaka.

The first ever Blitz 'n' Memes meme...it's still very true.
