A brief biography of Fabiano Caruana
Fabiano Caruana was born on July 30, 1992, in Miami, USA, but spent much of his childhood between the U.S. and Europe. From an early age, he showed strong logical thinking and quickly rose through the chess ranks. At just 14, he became the youngest grandmaster in Italy’s history (he played for Italy at the time), though he later switched back to representing the United States. Caruana is best known for his incredible run in 2018, when he challenged Magnus Carlsen for the World Chess Championship. All classical games ended in draws, but Carlsen won in the rapid tiebreak. Fabiano is respected for his deep opening preparation and highly analytical style. He plays with calm precision and prefers well-structured, strategic positions over chaos. Outside of the chessboard, he enjoys classical music and often appears in chess podcasts and commentary.
