
A brief biography of Levon Aronian
Levon Aronian was born on October 6, 1982, in Yerevan, Armenia, and he’s one of the most beloved and creative chess players of our time. He became a grandmaster in 2000 and quickly climbed to the top of the world rankings. Known for his imaginative and unpredictable style, Aronian has a special gift for turning even simple positions into something exciting and beautiful. Over the years, he’s won many of the world’s most prestigious tournaments — including Wijk aan Zee, Linares, and the Grand Slam Final. He’s also been a World Rapid and Blitz Champion, and a key player in Armenia’s national team, leading them to multiple Chess Olympiad victories. Beyond the board, Aronian is admired for his warmth, humor, and love of music and culture. In 2021, he made the decision to switch federations and represent the USA, but he remains a national hero in Armenia and a favorite among chess fans worldwide.
