Magnus Carlsen was born on November 30, 1990, in Norway, and from a young age it was clear he had a special gift for chess. He became a grandmaster at just 13 years old, and in 2013, he won the World Chess Championship by defeating Viswanathan Anand. He held on to the title all the way until 2023, defending it successfully several times. But Magnus isn’t just a champion in classical chess — he’s also won world titles in both rapid and blitz formats. What makes him stand out is his creative and flexible style; he doesn’t just rely on memorized openings but often creates fresh and unpredictable positions on the board. His mix of logic, creativity, and incredible memory makes him one of the most unique players in chess history. Outside of chess, he’s also into football, modeling, and business — including launching his own chess platform.
