The Simply Swiss is a weekly five round 5+2 Swiss tournament, where winning will earn you points to win a cash prize. In the 82nd edition of the Simply Swiss, we saw a 3-way tie for first place with RyanMath2KGod finishing 1st, followed by willhblob and Rchen112. All three players scored an impressive 4/5 against the field of 10 players. In this weekly recap of the Simply Swiss, we will cover the Game of the Tournament, Upset of the Tournament, and a few puzzles at the end.

Game of the Tournament:

This game would be between the eventual co-champions. An interesting game where RyanMath2KGod was better at first, but after reaching an equal position, lost the crucial a-pawn that helped willhbob win the game.

Upset of the Tournament:

The 1393 rated ChessDragon2021 beating the 2078 rated FieryFries was by far the largest upset of the tournament, winning by 700 points. Even though ChessDragon got lucky by winning on time, he still put up a good battle and it was equal throughout the game. Next time, FieryFries shouldn't play League of Legends during the game.

Puzzles:

When the pandemic hit in 2020, it changed the lifestyles of everyone around the world. Ming realized that many people were turning to chess in their spare time, so he founded SimplyChess which provided free weekly online lessons and monthly tournaments. As our team grew, we expanded our programs to provide more opportunities for chess players of all ages to practice and improve. In 2022, we officially established SimplyChess as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
