When Boris Gelfand won the Candidates event in Kazan to earn the right to challenge Vishy Anand for the world title it was the pinnacle - to date - of a long chess career.

But although Gelfand has been competing at the top level for two decades, he arguably isn't as familiar to chess fans as other players of the same era.

Following his recent success Gelfand has been interviewed to within an inch of his life, and Mishanp has translated extensive sections of these into English at his excellent Chess In Translation website.

You can read all about Gelfand's opinions on his success in Kazan, the format of the event, Magnus Carlsen's withdrawal, his chances against Anand, his early years in chess, and his family and other interests.
