Der Spiegel on Ivanchuk 'Doping Scandal'
It seems that chess only hits the headlines when there's a scandal or controversy of some sort. The popular German weekly magazine Der Spiegel has published a story on the Ivanchuk 'Doping Scandal' - English translation here.
It's a good summary of the incident and an amusing introduction to 'Planet Ivanchuk', but did they really have to use a picture that shows him picking his nose?
Personally, I don't know a great deal about the drugs that may allegedly be of benefit to chess players, but I do know that the only reason for the drugs tests taking place at all is the absurd FIDE idea that chess could be in the Olympic Games.
I love chess, but it's NOT an Olympic sport any more than Bridge, Poker, Darts, Snooker, Pool etc...
I just hope FIDE isn't dumb enough to ban Chucky just for being upset after a game.
