Here's a New Year statistical treat: how the leading players' FIDE ratings changed over the years. The graph features January ratings of #1 player, #2 player, the average of top 10 (excluding the leader) and the average of top 100 (again, excluding the leader). You can hover your cursor over the data points to see the exact ratings and who was #1 and #2 in a given year.

For the first time since 2011, the average rating of the Top 100 (excluding the #1 player) dropped below 2700.
