There are so many openings in chess there are 1,327 named openings in chess, some are bad, and some are very good. The good openings usually follow the opening principles, such as developing pieces, castle early, controlling the center, don't bring the queen out too early, etc.  So, in this article, I will mention the 5 best openings for white for me. I will rank the opening from 5 to 1, hope this helps!

5. The Queen's Gambit

The Queen's Gambit was a strong very strong opening, it was called the queen's gambit because white sacrificed its c-pawn. The best option for black is to decline the gambit because if black accept it, white will easily get back the pawn and white will have a more developed and better position.

and if black tries to protect the pawn black will be in a bad position.

4. English Opening 

The English were a flank opening with the first move 1. c4, its main goal is to put pressure on the d5 square with a wing pawn, this opening usually looks like a reversed Sicilian because black will control the center with e5 instead on d5. In the English, white is controlling the center with the c-pawn. 

other than the reversed Sicilian, the English also had some other variants, and sometimes it could also lead to some queen pawn openings.

The Italian Game was a great and one of the oldest opening, it's good because it focuses on the center and developed its piece. The Italian can lead to slow games and open games, it also could be played by all levels of players.

The Scotch Game was an excellent opening for every strength of player. White have a space advantage and put pressure on Black's e5 pawn. The goal of the Scotch is to win the center with exchanging the d-pawn.

1. Ruy López

The Ruy López or Spanish Opening is one of the most analyzed opening, it developed the pieces, control the center, and white can castle early. The Ruy López was very similar to the Italian Game, but instead of Bc4 we move the bishop to Bb5, the goal of Bb5 is actually to attack the knight on c6 and weakens the e5 pawn. but after you capture the knight don't eat the e5 pawn immediately.
