I posted comments http://www.meetup.com/ChessCom/Columbia-SC/83060/#comments-list

and on http://columbiachess.blogspot.com/2011/04/british-bulldog-chess-meetup.html

But from requests of others I wanted to match up some chess.com handles with some real names.

Chess.com ers in attendance were in addition to myself were:

Bob Eric Richard John Mike Paul David Kyle

Others attending

Craig Mike James Keith Tarokh Philipp Kevin Kyle

and some other family members and children stopped by.

Some other Chess.com ers who are active club regulars and could not make it and were sorely missed were:

David Paul Cody Joerg Adam Mike David

This meetup was a great time had by all.  Attendees came from multiple states. We added club, USCF and Chess.com memberships.  We networked with gawkers and soccer hooligans and created interest in chess.  We supported the local economy and patroned our great venue for the event, The British Bulldog Pub.

South Carolina is a small chess state relatively speaking but we are well organized and growing. This growth is a grass roots effort and the meetup was very helpful.

The Columbia chess club meets regularly on Thursdays 7pm at Ashland UMC room 125

Contacts are Bob or Daniel

Some larger upcoming SC events are:

Lee Hyder Memorial May 20-22, 2011 Columbia, SC at the Hilton Garden Inn

SC Open June 24-26, 2011 Greenville, SC at the Phoenix Inn

We are having a SC class championship this year July 9-10-2011 at the Hilton Garden Inn

The Columbia Open will be a Grand Prix Event this year and will be the largest tournament ever held in SC with a Guaranteed 5k in prizes.  Aug 19-21, 2011 at the Hilton Garden Inn. I expect some of you titled players to invade SC to grab some of those Grand Prix points.

The 72nd SC Championships will be held in Columbia, SC Oct 14-16  at the Hilton Garden Inn .

Thanks to Chess.com, meetup.com and the British Bulldog pub for making April 16th a fun and successful chess day for all.
