A Bittersweet Tournament
Hello everyone and welcome to the FIRST OTB recap of my blog, SAS Statements! (Also, sorry for so much delay from my last post.)
In this blog, I’m gonna be recapping the Gambito #1025, which is held almost every Saturday in the fabulous San Diego Chess Club. Honestly, I don’t feel like telling all the details of the tournament, let’s just say that it’s a 4 round Swiss with 45 delay 5 time control. My personal goal in this tournament is to just cross 2000 and play good chess. And… yeah, let’s just get into it. You came here to see how bad + sometimes good I am, right?
ROUND 1
I checked the pairings, and I was playing black against a 1770. This game was much difficult than I thought…

ROUND 2
My second round opponent was a 2170, and I knew this was going to be hard…. Let’s see what happens!

ROUND 3
It’s the third round.
Our lovely protagonist is against a 2160 YOUTUBER (Check him out, his channel is TheChessGiant) with white.
Will he survive?
. I was worse… then completely winning…. And then it became a draw. At least I managed to survive the hippo, though! Onto round 4, the final round! If I win, I get first place, which will be HUGE for me…
ROUND 4
This was my face when I checked the final pairings:
I was playing…. A 2472-rated IM!!!! Oh god…
. This game is why my tournament was bittersweet, at least for me.
CONCLUSION
Thanks for reading!! My tournament was pretty bittersweet, I passed 2000 (my current rating is now 2010), but I had a big chance to win my game against an IM. Well, I hope I win next time. Don’t forget to comment below, and see ya next time! I need to drink water 💦 💧
