5.Hikaru Nakamura

Hikaru Nakamura is a Japanese-American chess grandmaster, five-time U.S. Chess Champion, and the reigning World Fischer Random Chess Champion. Hikaru represented the United States at five Chess Olympiads.

4.Fabiano Caruana

Fabiano Caruana is an Italian-American chess grandmaster. Caruana is the youngest grandmaster in the history of both Italy and the United States at the time. Caruana won the U.S. Chess Championship in 2016 and 2022. Fabiano now has the highest ranking in the USA.

3.Samuel Reshevsky

Samuel Reshevsky was Polish-American chess grandmaster. He was a contender for the World Chess Championship from the mid-1930s to the mid-1960s. Samuel was an eight-time winner of the US Chess Championship. I don't know if Reshevsky was that good, but as his countryman I had to give him such a high position.

2.Bobby Fischer

This gentleman needs no introduction, Bobby Fischer was an American chess grandmaster and the eleventh World Chess Champion. Bobby won eight US Chess Championships. Fischer also invented Fischer random chess, also known as Chess960. Bobby made numerous antisemitic statements. In 1975, Fischer refused to defend his title.

1.Paul Morphy

Paul Morphy was an American chess player. He is considered to have been the greatest chess master of his era and is considered the unofficial World Chess Champion. Paul was second to none, so if he were alive today he would probably be the best. A baseball club was named after him. Having vanquished virtually all serious opposition, Morphy reportedly declared that he would play no more matches without giving odds of pawn and move.
