Any strategies for objectively viewing a position OTB?

There are times during a game when I have a plan (make an exchange on this square, in order to open that file, so I can attack the king, etc.) and I get "tunnel vision" and I cease to see the board objectively.

What strategies do you use to look at a given position?  How do you look at the board with fresh eyes?
