THE GOLD COIN GAME

The situation was never this serious ,not just COVID-19 but even the mindset of chess players .The rating system has played an important role in placing the players in the world list of chess .For example a 2000 rated player is placed above a 1900 rated player in the list. This is making players to play only for the elo points rather than enjoying the game .People are scared to play attacking chess or sacrifice material (not all) because they are scared they would lose their games and thereby lose rating points .

Going back in time ,when no rating system was introduced (FIDE) people were truly enjoying chess and played it to entertain the crowd .Most of them played aggressive  chess .One of the most famous personality who did this was MIKHAIL TAL .Anyways we are not going to discuss about his games today rather we will be discussing about a well known player FRANK MARSHALL who is famous for his opening named after him The MARSHALL attack

MIKHAIL TAL

Moving on to the game i.e the gold coin game as mentioned in the title it was played by Stefan Levitsky vs Frank James Marshall at poland in 1912 .

The game started with d4 which was transformed into the french in the 2nd move

You mighty be thinking why is it even called the GOLD COIN GAME it could have had any other name but why only this .This is the reason why

When Marshall had played Qg3 on move number 23 the crowd started to cheer for Marshall and were throwing GOLD COINS on the board after the move as a symbol of grace and appreciation and that is the reason why the game is called THE GOLD COIN GAME.
