There many things to master in chess, but just a summary these three stages of the game can be crucial.

  • The Opening
  • The Middle Game
  • The Endgame

Step one: The Opening

There are three factors that the decide the outcome of the game in chess, mate, time, and material.

In the opening you should look forward to accomplish these three things to ensure your best chance of winning.

  • Secure the king

When you castle the pawns create a wall, so your pieces can attack

  • Develop pieces

This is how you can create immediate threats to your opponent and increase influence in the center

  • Occupy the four central squares

The more space you have, the more easily your pieces can move around

Step two: The Middle game

By this point, the your back rank should be clear for the rooks to enter the game

There are several factors to consider in the middle game...

  • Your opponent weakness

Always look out for the enemy weakness and a way to take advantage of it

  • Your opponent plan

Try to figure out his or her plan and find the best response

  • A plan for yourself

Once his or her attack is over, you can start your own attack

Step three: The Endgame

In the endgame, you must be careful, since every move decide the fate of the game. Here are some tips to improve your endgame knowledge.

  • Practice basic checkmates (Queen+King vs King)

  • Push the pawn

Passed pawn must be push!

  • Take your time

Try to limit your opponent king space, but don't over do it or it's stalemate

  • Bring the king out

T The material is equal but the white king is much more active, so he can both stop black pawn and support his pawn.
