In chess, there are a lot of tactical motifs ; double attack, obstruction, skewer, x-rays....

Today we will look at pins. First, what is a pin ? Here is a basic example :

In this position, white's bishop on b5 pins the knight on c6; it can't move. There are two types of pins; absolute pins and other pins. In an absolute pin, the piece is pinned to the king. In a non absolute pin, the pinned piece is pinned to a normal piece. These types of pin can sometimes be broken; here is an example :
