They Offered Draw, Declined. I Offered, Declined And I Won (MY SECOND IM NORM!!)
BLOG OF THE MONTH IN JULY!
@Vslymrzv on Chess.com (vasilymorozov#4912 on discord) summed it up nicely:
"Tani Adewumi secures his second IM norm
Going into the IM Norm New York Summer Invitational, Tani already had one IM Norm which he had earned at the previous 2022 New York Spring Invitational. The 11-year-old started off hot, beating #2 seed IM Levy Rozman (GothamChess) and #4 seed Danila Poliannikov. On great pace for the 7/9 IM norm, Tani was able to hold with black against top seed 2463 IM Mykola Bortnyk. After winning in round 5, solid play led to split points in Tani's 6th and 7th rounds. On the morning of the tournament's final day, the young prodigy needed 1.5/2 to secure his norm. And in the penultimate round, he would have to face fellow leader FM Akira Nakada. But the better player that day showed, and Tani was able to outplay Nakada to move to 6.5/8. Needing just half a point, Tanitoluwa Adewumi made a quick draw with IM Roberto Abel Martin Del Campo Cardenas in the final round to secure his second IM norm. Tani now needs his final IM Norm and less than 60 rating points for 2400, before he can achieve the International Master title."
Yep, it was a great tournament for me and I will show the games down in order from Round 1-9 I will post my thoughts and some interesting things that happened below each game. Please don't worry about Punctuation I know how to use Punctuation I didn't use it in this blog

Thanks! Enjoy the Blog!.
So the first round was regular it took an effort to beat Chawit I got a good position out of the Opening and I did make some mistakes with his Knight entering e4 but other than that Yeah pretty good game.
So I am playing Levy, I was highly excited for this game, well why because I am playing levy and I watched levys review video that he posted before the tournament. And I thought he was going to play c4! But he plays e4 and I was shocked but played my normal stuff. and he played this Bf4 Variation, I Lost to Alexander Shablov in the 2022 Chicago Open in this Variation but I make some corrections. I was in passivity the whole game but Levy had to make the decisions not me and he blundered a nice d5! on move 25, wow the game looked like move 40 + on that move but it was 25, and yep peculiar game.
This game was weird and exciting I played d4 especially against Danila because I knew he plays Benoni and I wanted to play that. he played this Qe7 which was Annoying and messed up my whole plan of Nf3 and Nd2 π *sigh* I got the worst Position. But I sacked an Exchange, and I was better but I played 2 moves too quickly and got a worst Position After Kh8 on move 27 and the rook trade and Nf5 with the Nice move Kb3 gave me an Advantage but he missed After Kg4 I have Ke5!! on move, 44 (End of Game), and after both pawns Queen I have Qg8+ and we are forced to trade and my King is closer so I win. Good game from Both of us just the last move from Danila Lost the game. But Great Game from Danila
I was very excited about this game because I was playing the highest in my Group and I didn't want to lose It Extremely Interesting Opening, Computer says I could have Taken his Bishop on d2 and I have an advantage but I didn't see the clear escape and I sacked my Queen for Knight and Rook and I easily Consolidated and made a draw
This game was very quick, It said on Chess.com that my Opponents rating was 2369 and also put the wrong name, and after the tournament was over the right name was finally put. After I won this game Incredibly Quick I named the board "The 30-minute Board", Actually in Round 9 a fellow participant Akira Nakada was also white and won in around 30 minutes with white so watch out if you are black on that board! π.
I played my extremely Good Friend Brewington Hardaway I and Other Friends Usually call him Brew but this game was well-played, He surprised me in the Opening, and well everything Evaporated Quickly and the game ended in a Calm Draw.
Now this game was pure luck for me. Just looking at the game explains everything already. The Opening was Great and then I made this Bad Decision Nf5? and ruined the whole structure I was tucked for the whole game and Gus had to make all the Decisions and He did make them on Move 53 I made the Horrendous Blunder Bb1???????? (The Move deserves 8 Question Marks) He has Nf1 and it is Mate in 9 Moves. BUT HE MISSED IT (I won't even come close to blaming Gus for missing this, I also missed it, and yeah the game Relaxed and I was able to easily make a draw After all the complications.
At this point, I needed 1.5/2 to get the Norm which meant I had to win a game. I was White in this game so I kinda had to win this game. This game starts with a Caro Kann which I was expecting from Akira and then plays this Bg4 Variation on move 5 instead of Nc6 and Qc7 I got the Bishop pair and was likely my Position, and then this Happened... on Move 15 Akira Offered me a Draw. Keep in mind he also has 5.5 and a Draw would benefit him because he has white in the next game, I have black in Round 9. So I spent 20 minutes thinking about it and Declined to play Bishop f1 to start move 16. And Then played Rac8, And I Offered a Draw πΆπΆπ€―π€―π€―π€―. AND HE DECLINED!!!!!!!!!!!. And we played Chess. On Move 21 I found the really Nice c4. He can't take it because After I take it back and he takes it with his Knight I have Qe4 and after g6 Bxh6 and everything collapses if f5 then Qxe6 and another move are also Bxh6. He played Nd7 and I took on d5, After he took back I spent 50 Minutes on Bxh6!! and i played it. There was a nice variation Bxh6 Gxh6 Qg4+ Kh8 Qf5 Kg7 Qh7+ Kf6 Qxh6+ Ke7 Rac1! Qb6 Qg5 f6 Qxd5!. And White is just winning + I Calculated All of this and many more. Then plays Nf6. πΆπ I did all of that calculating no NOTHING LIKE COM'N ON JUST WHY. And i kept my Pawn Advantage and Went on to win this Incredible game, WOW.
Well You remember what i said?, All i need is 1.5/2 and i made a Draw with Martin and i got the NORM!!!! with 7/9!!
