Puzzle Rush!
Recently I have discovered the new chess training tool here called "Puzzle Rush".
My first impression is that it seems like an invaluable tool to hammer in core chess principles, like:
- When you see a check, always give a check
- Sac first, think later
- Calculation is a waste of valuable time
- You see a free queen, do not take it but look for a crazy sacrifice sequence for a checkmate
- When you see a forced mate, also look for a crazy sacrifice sequence for a quicker checkmate
- Material gain is always worth any positional concession, including the safety of your king
- Always push a passed pawn
- When promoting a pawn, consider which piece you want to promote to
- Always en passant
Once all of the above are a part of your chess muscle memory, you might get far enough to find puzzles to practice more advanced principles.
But what do I know? Judging from my puzzle rush scores, I have not mastered the elementary ones above ...
