Taiwan Nationals 2013: part 3 -- sit on your spot even when you receive a bye
Another braindead rule enforced here is how to deal with byes. If there are an odd number of players, one player will receive a bye each round. That is no game, an automatic win.
However this win is not as automatic as in Europe.
To receive your "win" for a bye you have to be seated when the Arbiter declares the round to start. Which is extraordinarily stupid if your game is 8:30 in the morning, and the round is drawn the day before. You still need to go downtown to sit on your spot for a minute, sign an empty scoresheet with your name, and then you are free to leave again. Or worse yet, get up at 5 to take a train from a different city.
Why not just award a win for the bye?
