Hi everyone, thank you for taking your precious time to be here today. Today I am going to show you games that I have played against higher rated opponents. I know I am just a 700-rated guy who knows nothing about chess, but that hasn’t stopped me from challenging myself—and sometimes even surprising myself!

In this blog, I’ll walk you through a few of my most memorable games against stronger players. I’ll share what I was thinking, the blunders I made, the traps I fell into, and the valuable lessons I picked up along the way. Whether I won, lost, or drew, each of these games taught me something— either about chess or about how I approach the game.

Before I begin, I’d like to thank @VOB96 and @AaravRoy_25 for helping me with the anchors for this blog. I also want to give a big shout-out to @SPK1729 for inspiring me to write this blog, after reading his recent post about his matches against higher rated opponents. Without further ado let us jump right into the topic.

Me VS 1600 :

This is a game I played against a 1600 rated player in a chess.com tournament where the paring was not rating-based. I was playing with the black pieces.

So, from this match I understood :
1. That I am should stay calm and not freak out when I play a person who is higher rated than me.
2. I am supposed to calculate what my opponent will play after I play a move.
3. I have to start playing faster, as I am very used to playing rapid and not blitz.

Me VS 1900:
This is a game I played against a 1900 in the same tournament. I was playing black again. Sit back and enjoy watching me getting absolutely humbled.
This was not a good game for me but what I learnt was: One small mistake and the whole game just slips out of your hand. Maybe I could have played my endgame better and maybe even the middlegame.

Me VS Another 1600:
In this game, my opponent had just hit 1600. I had no idea I was playing a 1600, since I had Focus Mode switched on as it helps me conquer my fear. Hope you enjoy this game.
This is my first win against a high rated player (at least for me).

Me VS 2000:
In this game I played a 2000 rated player where I was up a piece till the 37th move and after that the game was completely equal but still I lost the match. Let us get right into the game.
This is how I destroyed my hope of winning against a 2000, but even though I lost this game I learnt a lot in all these games.

Outro : What I Need to Improve :-
Facing stronger opponents has been a humbling but valuable experience. These games revealed the gaps in my consistency, calculation accuracy, and positional understanding under pressure. I often found myself spending too much time ⏱ in critical positions or misjudging long-term plans 📈. Going forward, I know I need to work on converting advantages more confidently, improving my time management, and sharpening my ability to evaluate positions dynamically 💪. Studying classic games, analysing my losses deeply, and solving more tactical puzzles will be key. Every loss is a lesson, and I’m motivated to turn these lessons into progress 💯 💯.
