Now, the French Defense is a strong defence. If I have to be honest, every defence is quite safe, except this defence:

It's called Fool's Mate because only a fool would play this. So please remember not to play this at all, whether you are playing as White or Black. Anyway, the French Defence is played as the following:

The e6 pawn defends the d5 pawn, so the e4 pawn can't take it. It's really simple to understand so that is why this blog is very short. The opening is also recommended in Levy's book, called How To Win At Chess: The Ultimate Guide For Beginners And Beyond. Thank you!
