The Guide To Pieces - The King

The king is one of the most useless pieces, yet the most important piece in chess. You have to defend the king from any attack and yet still attack the enemy king. But always remember - keep it balanced. If you only want to attack the enemy, you'll be checkmated! And if you only focus on defense, the game becomes boring and it'll end up in a draw. The king only moves 1 square in any direction, yet this rule is broken because of it's special move - castling.

To castle, make sure no pieces block the area between the king and the rook. You cannot castle if an enemy piece is attacking a square that the king with pass through. You cannot castle if the rook or the king is moved. To castle, move your king 2 squares closer to the rook you want to castle with. If the rook is on the left, then the rook will go on the square right next to him. If the rook is on the right, then the rook will go on the square left to him. Like this example:
