The Daylen Gambit
It was a cold dark night... I found myself grinding something I hadn't grinded in a long time. BULLET chess!!! I had let my skills go down quite a lot. Once upon a time I was 1750, and over the past couple months my skills had vanished. That being said, I still was a tricky little son of a gun if my opponent gave me the chance to show off my cleverness. One line that I really liked to play in bullet was the Scandinavian defense... It was a good solid opening if you wanted to go for some tricky lines. That being said, I noticed something that surprised me, a lot of my opponents in the 30 second chess pull were premoving Nc3 after capturing the pawn!
This got my mind thinking. "If my opponents are going to be premoving 3. Nc3, what could I do in response?" and then I came up with something, I think I tried this once before months ago against my 2100 friend Priyansh to which I promptly won that game. The idea is simple if they premove Nc3 anticipating Qxd5, if instead you go Bg4 the queen is free.
This is the idea. And what you will get if the Daylen gambit works successfully. That being said, if it doesn't work... Well then you are down a piece with no compensation and white should convert the game. But the true beauty of this, is that it shows that Nc3 is a premove that cannot be played which in a 30 second match against somebody shows the domination you can have. Instead in a bullet game I propose an amendment to the third move, and say that for practical purposes in a bullet game white should play Nf3, as it disallows the Daylen gambit, and it also will throw off the players who do take back on d5 immediately, making them likely waste a tempo with the queen prematurely. I was tired of being bullied with the early b4 move to catch premovers that have their queen on a5, and this is my counter strike!
More than anything this is just a joke, but amigos! If you feel inspired to play some bullet I encourage you to do so! And before I finish I must show a real game where a real player fell victim to the Daylen Gambit!
This player's peak rapid rating is 2047! And their highest bullet rating was 1830. This just goes to show how powerful this gambit is. @DanielRensch I humbly request that chess.com name this gambit after me! I am sure that I am not the first to play this variation and I definitely will not be the last. But if there can be the Jerome opening that is an opening where you are just losing a knight, and Hikaru can have an opening named by him "The Bongcloud" then, as a token of appreciation for being a proud and active chess.com user for the past 5 years, I humbly ask you Danny and the rest of the chess.com team to let me contribute this nothing line to chess.
@CHESScom @SimonMTL I'm also tagging you two as I know you are admins that can make this happen! I know this is just a silly request but it would make me so happy if I saw my name added to a variation, even if that variation happened to be hanging a bishop for no reason basically playing hope chess. I also played in 70 of the chess.com qualifiers for the playins last year, it would all be worth it if I can have a contribution to chess theory. A rather silly contribution! I hope that I can stir up some trouble and cause so many people to be traumatized by this line that nobody feels safe premoving Nc3 against the Scandinavian defense anymore!
If you want to help me in my endeavors to get a chess opening variation named after me, in the comments show your victories in The Daylen Gambit line, and I will make a follow up post analyzing the best games! I'll be keeping an eye out and waiting for this variation to be named after me, I hope to popularize it! This is a short blog post, if I get a chance to play in the tournament monday I'll do another blog post talking about my experiences trying to continue climbing in my otb climb! Hope you guys enjoyed and try this silly gambit line out for yourself
