2020 Chess Goals
I am well aware that of the time of this writing, it's already April 14. However, the beginning to 2020 was full of a lot of personal conflicts that forced me to take a step back from the game, and focus on other areas, but alas, my life has returned to some form of normalcy.
I have thought about areas in my game that need to most improvement, and while the obvious answer is likely, 'All of the Above', I figured that I'm going to focus on my endgame. It's not something I rather enjoy studying, but the more I watch other players battle, it's the one area which appears to separate the winners from the losers, and that is why you'll notice that my goals consist of a lot of Endgame Material and practice.
So here are my goals for 2020.
- Become an official Chess.com Blogger - My goals for this is to write a few blog posts per week, and to promote my journey to being a top 100 player in Georgia.
- Puzzles for 100 Hours - Puzzles/Tactics are one of the main foundations for good chess play, and it all begins with recognizing patterns. Right now, I have done 25 hours of puzzles, so this is going to take a lot of Puzzle Rushes as I get to the goal of 100 hours.
- Bullet - 1,000 Games - Bullet is currently one of my weakest time controls, with a sad rating of just 1159 after only 338 matches played. I think this is going to be one of the easier goals to reach, but it's just going to take making progress step by step, day by day, week by week, and hopefully I'll grow a love for it that I have to yet to experience.
- Blitz - 2,000 Games - This is my time control of choice, and this is also most of the USCF rated tournaments, so again, I don't think this will be all that difficult to achieve.
- Rapid - 500 Games - Not my favorite time control, but I certainly appreciate it more than the hectic Bullet. I don't play this all that often as it requires a lot of time, but I think this is probably my favorite time control.
