The kings pawn opening and how to counter it Part 1 of2
The kings pawn opening is the most common chess opening. Starts with 1.e4 e5 3.Nf3 Nc6.lts main goal is to develop pieces and attack black. Most of the time the kings pawn leads to quick and aggressive openings. After this move it can evolve into many other openings such as: kings gambit, Scotch game, Italian game etc.
White can also play the fried liver attack by playing : 4.Bc4 Nf6 5.Ng5 threatening to fork the queen and the rook.
Counters: Black can play d5 to attack the bishop and if white plays exd5 than black can play Nxd5 giving black time to castle.
Another way to counter 1.e4 is to play the Sicilian defense by c5 stopping white to dominate the center.
Black will have a positional advantage.
You can also play the unpopular Owens defense by playing b7.lt is not a good option though and l advise you not to play it as it keeps black backwards in development. lt is best to achieve a quick development of your pieces(mostly minor pieces and pawns). As long as you have developed pieces and a good pawn structure you can counter the kings pawn opening.
