Wassup, how's it going? I hope you are having an amazing day, I know I am. In this blog I will tell you how to use a mouse like a pro as well as some tips on how to play a position under time pressure.

And no, I do know how to spell "skills" but I invented the word "skillz" so that's what I say.

Enjoyy

Why do you need mouse skillz?

It is really important to have a trust in your mouse so that you can play quick time controls like blitz and bullet. But even if you are playing something like rapid it is really nice to not mess up, and messing up a good position because of a mouse slip is the worst thing ever. But how do you practice your mouse skills?

How to practice:

There are a few things that you can do to practice, here are some:

  • Take risks while practicing: Taking risks while practicing your mouse skills simply means you have to make a constant effort to move your mouse faster than you are comfortable with, this helps with getting used to what you aren't used to.
  • Solo Chess: Solo chess is one of the best things to do when practicing your mouse skills, it also helps with your calculation and visualization skills.
  • Drills: Drills is an excellent way to improve your mouse skills and your endgame know-how.
  • Tactics: Doing Tactics is another really good way to improve your mouse skills as long as you are doing easier puzzles that are unrated so that you can set the rating to what you want.

These are some of the things that you can do to practice your mouse skills.

A few exercises

Here are a few exercises that are essential.

This one might look stupid but it is really important, especially in bullet and blitz. The goal of this exercise is to move the pawn from e2 to e8 really quick. You can start by just moving it slowly maybe two squares a second, then move up to maybe 4 or 5 squares a second.

This next one is solo chess, the goal is to try to figure out the answer and then execute it out as fast as you can. If you want to know more about solo chess you can check out this blog by one of my best homies out here @EnergeticHay, if you want to check out his article: Chess... But With Only 1 Player?

This next one is to know how to do a Checkmate Drill really quickly, these are pretty simple when you know how they work but they can get a little unclear when you are doing them fast. Doing these will not only help your mouse skills but they will also help you in quickly evaluating a position when you are under time pressure.
