Chess.com is a famous chess website where many players interact and play with each others. Plus we have got awesome chess courses by the Grandmasters, International Masters, Women Grandmasters and Women International Masters. Puzzles, endgame tactics, chess tournaments and so on. But as the saying “ Nothing is perfect “, it applies to chess.com too. Chess.com has various sorts of problems and issues which people face everyday when using the website. Today, we will be discussing some of those problems.

1. Membership Restrictions

So far, it is the worst problem to exist in chess.com. You don’t have free access to everything like in lichess.org. People with normal membership has yet suffered the worst. You only get 1 lesson per week, so if you had to finish all of the courses in chess.com, it would take you more than a year. Puzzle tactics are limited ton only 3, no using of flairs, ads and so on. People with membership are the comfortable ones. But that is only for Platinum and Diamond ones. People with Gold Membership have infinite access to analysis and explorer and also no ads but that is not applicable for puzzles, tactics, puzzle battle and lessons. I am not saying that Gold Membership is bad or something because I have it too. Anyways the main thing is chess.com has made it comfortable only for the ones with premium membership and not for the normal ones.

2. Lag

Second worst problem of chess.com. I have faced this issue myself. Whenever I am analysing a game, it always lags when I proceed to the next move. I had posted a forum post named “ What are the problems of chess.com apart from its membership “ and there were many. And some of them had also mentioned lag. Lag isn’t a pleasant thing. Imagine playing a game, and suddenly the game becomes choppy, low quality with 10 FPS. Would you like it? No, definitely not. Everyone enjoys high quality, whether it be a photograph, a movie or a video. Every site requires high quality for its users, and if it is laggy and you are having problems doing things, you are most certainly going to quit using the website. But if you argue that it he site will I’d end become laggy if your network isn’t good enough, then for your information, I use a 5G WiFi at my home so I have little to no internet connectivity issues. If chess.com doesn’t get rid of its lag problem, people will start to quit this awesome website.

3. Cheating

A problem which irritates every people playing chess online. There are in fact many cheaters in chess.com. Most of the cheaters don’t know how to play chess and they use a chess engine, which is illegal. Some cheaters know how to play chess and they also try not to make it too obvious. But those who don’t know, play in a manner which is very obvious that they are cheating. I am giving credit to @GothamChess who had eliminated tonnes of cheaters in his videos. But there is one thing no one will ever disagree : chess cheaters have no respect.

4. Spamming

Oh boy, where to start? There are so many spammers in chess.com to begin with. If you don’t know what they are, spammers are people who unnecessarily bombard people with comments and suggestions, and often questions. I had an encounter with a spammer who thought he was someone great but in reality nothing. He was far more experienced in chess than I was. But still this guy had suddenly messaged me telling Bro anime mat dekh chess bigar jayega ( Translation- Bro a don’t watch anime otherwise your chess would get bad ). He was an Indian and I was too so I understood what he said. I got triggered and I told him it was not his business what I watch. But he did not give and went on to say something that Japanese viewers will aggravated if they see it, he said that anime was some kind of Japanese sh*t. Now any other foreign person seeing this will think “ Indians are so terrible they don’t have respect for any other country or their culture “. And honestly that was what @AnirudhGopal ( the spammer who blocked me now ) made it seem like. I blocked him and I deleted the conversation. Now I wish I had not deleted it and told him a few more things or so, such as how he is a disgrace to our nation, he is no more than a poor beggar in the streets and so on. Sorry for my language but I am still fuming at the memory of that incident. Anyways let’s keep on moving.

5. Stalling and quitting games and racism.

One thing is certain, the more audience you have, the more problem you will begin to face. Same is with chess.com. There are so many dishonest individuals ( especially some Indians like AnirudhGopal I don’t even care now insulting my own country ) here and there that it’s difficult for the people who just want to have some fun have a good time. Imagine you waited for 5 min for a game to finally to load. You are ready play. You are white. You play your first move and then sudden see that it is showing “ Game Aborted “. Your opponent did not like the fact he had gotten black so he quit. Imagine that frustration. Even more frustrating is stalling a game. This technique is used mostly by beginners who are losing the game. They do this in order frustrate their opponent into quitting the game. Imagine playing a 30 min game. Your opponent blunders and then you see his not playing at all and is spamming draw requests which you deny. When you tell him to play, he says no and offers another draw. You decline. He then calls you trash, moron, idiot, stupid or whatever. Finally at one point you tell him you would agree to a draw. But he says no and tells you to resign the game. You are boiling with anger and you resign the game and curse at that guy. This was irritating. You report the user of Stalling or Quitting games and Racism ( two separate reports). You see that you had gotten a notification saying that the chess.com staff have taken the necessary action against that guy and refunded you your lost rating. I had myself faced one. This guy blundered his queen in the 10th move and refused to play a move till he had only 47s left. It was a 10 min rapid game. So what happened was when he stalled the game, I had taken a sandwich and I was munching on it, while waiting when he was gonna play. When he finally played, he admitted that he was astonished that I waited for so long and then lost to time lol.

So those were some of chess.coms biggest problems. Hope you liked the blog. Have a good day happy.png
