NOTE- This blog is based on the journey of a beginner from 200 to 900 ELO rating. I know it is not that great but I want to describe the experience first-hand.

I had joined chess.com in December 16th of 2020. My father had told me about this site and I wanted to visit it. I went there and signed up as " Alphameg ". I had signed up as New To Chess as I played like one. I played with one guy and lost to him terribly. That time, I used to hate losing and always quit the game in which I keep on losing.

After that, I played 3-4 more games and I was matched up against 1000s and lost all of them. Then my father told me the way I was playing was wrong and I should do a faster time control such as 10 min. I did this and earned my first win. At that time, I only knew 1 opening set up. That is the Scholar Mate set up. But it was not the same with all of the games. Most of them knew what Scholar Mate was and also knew how to block it. Still there was a winning streak for me.

In December 29, I found the existence of the 1 min time control, Bullet. At first, I lost 3 of them. Then I won a lot of them but later my father told me that if I play Bullet and nonsense moves will not make me go far. Then, I had to quit Bullet and play Rapid again.

In January 13th of 2021, I had earned my first winning streak of 7. At that time, I rose to 530 rating. But I lost the rating at that exact date. My rating was then 475. I played some more Bullet games secretly and then went back to Rapid. I lost some more games and won a few.

I had then watched a few lessons in chess.com and believe me, they were incredibly helpful. How they became so helpful would be explained in the rest of the blog.

I had to stop playing for a while as my exams were approaching. At the end of February, I returned to chess.com. I had lost my 400 rating by then and was back to 300. Then, I had a new determination. I wanted to get to 400 rating at all cost and then target the higher ratings. I played 9 games, won 8 and drew 1. I was then 375. I thought I would push my rating forward the next day. But the next day was the day where all my troubles began. I was internet connectivity issues and lost many games due to disconnection. I then dropped to 320 which made me depressed. All that hard work gone to wastage! But in the evening, everything went perfectly and won tones of games and achieved my 400 rating. Next goal was 500.

I began playing many games and within some days, I got 500 rating. I then targeted 600 rating. Again, after playing many games I got the 600 rating. I was overjoyed then. I had made some friends when I was 300 and I had gotten much better than them. I know I am a bit competitive. After that, achieving 700 rating was the toughest one for me. My father told me I would get a double-scoop ice-cream if I get 700 rating. I had gotten the 700 rating but I lost it soon. I was playing live chess then and I had accidentally clicked on the challenge of a 500 rated player and after playing with this guy, I found out this guy played too well for his level. I lost to him and had a -13. I went back to 600 rating. I played some more in Play and lost more games. My rating was then 654. I had gotten depressed over this and left Rapid for a long time.

At that period, I began playing Blitz and won a lot of them and lost some by time. Anyways, I had decided why not play some rapid? I played one game and won easily. Then I played some more. After winning every single one of them, I had finally retrieved my 700 rating in the month of May. I had left Blitz and started play Rapid. And it was at that tine I had earned my first brilliant move.

Nd4 there was a brilliant move because if Bxg4, then there would be draw by repetition .

Anyways I had also earned my first victory with no blunders or inaccuracy.

After all of this happened, I had struggled to get to 800, which was my main goal. I had gotten the goal I had longed for in June. Then the next main goal was 1000 rating. But this contained some memorable games too. I had made difficult high-level calculations as well as a brilliant move in an endgame.

And this one contains the brilliant move

In July 23 or July 22, I had reached from 821 to 900 rating. I had won several games and I rose to 900 Rapid. But the achievement was lost the next day when I fell to 800. My rating steadily declined to low 800. I had played more games and won many and lost many. But it was not till the 6th of September did I get my lost 900 rating back. I had won tones of games and lost 2. If you go to my completed games, you will see I have a win streak. Yesterday, I had to draw a winning position against a 500 as I had something important to do and couldn't afford to lose -15 rating.

This was my journey from 200 - 900 in 7-8 months. Hope you liked it.

Have a good day.
