Traxler Counter Gambit, a true gamble

Gambits as you all know are considered as Gambles, in which there is a chance that your opponent doesn’t accept the Gambit and also another in which he accepts it. But there is 1 Gambit which gambles a Bishop and a Pawn for a better position. This Gambit is one of the counters against Italian Game : Knight Attack but the most riskiest as well.

I am showing you why

This is the main line of the Traxler. Looks pretty good right? No. I prefer the Polerio Defense over the Traxler Counter Gambit as it pretty much is risk free and the position is balanced meanwhile in Traxler after Bc5, white gets an advantage of +3.03 ( I am not exactly accurate pardon me ), even after white doesn’t accept the sacrifice of the Bishop, you will have a hard time playing.

Unless you are unaware of the Polerio Defense, let me show you this magnificent beast

The Polerio Defense is not as risky as the Traxler, which does not guarantee your victory at the end of the match. You will have to be cautious about every single move you make in the Traxler, with one inaccuracy will make your position even more difficult to solidify, since you will have a bishop missing. The King might be exposed in the Traxler, but it will require skill and attention to every move of the opponent to make sure you wont blunder up (in this case, make an inaccurate move).

If you have a low rating, it is advisable to use Polerio, but if you have mastered every single possible moves from the opponent in the Traxler and know how to counter them, then you are welcome to use the Traxler.

But if Eric Rosen is going against you with the Traxler, there is a 99.9% chance you hang your queen out of nervousness. That’s all. Hope you liked it.

Bye
